365 Hoddle Street redevelopment a major win for Collingwood community

Released on 21st September 2026

cohealth welcomes today’s Victorian Government announcement that the not-for-profit community health organisation’s much-loved site at 365 Hoddle Street in the inner-Melbourne suburb of Collingwood will be redeveloped into a purpose-built community health hub and social housing development.

“This is a major win that belongs to everyone who has advocated for years for the need to upgrade the ageing Hoddle Street facility,” says cohealth’s Chief Executive Officer, Kate Gillan.

“Today’s commitment from the Victorian Government, and support from the Commonwealth, will ensure the Collingwood community continues to have a health centre where people can access integrated care under one roof, close to home, for generations to come,” Kate says.

cohealth Community Advisory Group member and Collingwood resident Kim Chua has been campaigning for the site’s redevelopment for seven years.

“Today, we celebrate our voices being heard,” Kim says. “All the years of writing to the government, meeting with ministers, and organising campaigns have paid off.

“As community members, we’re also excited that we’ll also get the chance to work with cohealth to shape what the new 365 Hoddle Street site will look like.”

Between now and late November 2026, services at cohealth’s Hoddle Street site will continue as usual.

From December 2026, 365 Hoddle Street staff and services will move to an interim location 800 metres away, at 70 Trenerry Crescent in Abbotsford, guaranteeing that clients will still to be able to access their regular care from their usual providers.

cohealth’s services will continue at the Abbotsford location for up to three years, while the redevelopment of the Collingwood site takes place. Once complete, 365 Hoddle Street will become a long-term home for cohealth’s services, alongside social housing.

“This is a renewed commitment to the community of Collingwood,” Kate Gillan says. “cohealth is committed to returning to 365 Hoddle Street as the health service provider and continuing to care for this community over the long term.”

The future health centre will be built at the existing Collingwood site, honouring the deep history and connection this place holds for community.

cohealth’s general practice services will also continue being delivered across all all sites, including Collingwood/Abbotsford, Fitzroy, Footscray, and Kensington.

cohealth will keep 365 Hoddle Street clients updated throughout this process, to make this transition as smooth as possible. For more information, clients are invited to either speak with cohealth staff onsite at 365 Hoddle Street, call 03 9448 6814, or visit cohealth.org.au/community-info.
