cohealth, one of Victoria’s leading community health services, has paid tribute to outgoing Premier, Daniel Andrews following his resignation.
Statement attributable to Chief Executive, Nicole Bartholomeusz.
“While Daniel Andrews’ resignation marks the end of an era, his legacy will endure.
“Under his leadership, Victoria has seen progress in several key areas that align with cohealth’s mission of improving the health and wellbeing of our communities.
“The Premier spearheaded a raft of important social and health policy initiatives, including the establishment of the Royal Commission into Family Violence and Royal Commission into Victoria’s mental health system, introduction of voluntary assisted dying legislation, the decriminalisation of public drunkenness as well as steering the state through a once-in-a-century pandemic.”
“Premier Andrews has positioned Victoria as a leader in drug harm reduction by establishing Victoria’s first supervised injecting service in North Richmond, and committing to opening a second injecting service in the Melbourne CBD.
“He has also been a staunch advocate of LGBTQIA+ communities, banning conversion therapy and giving vocal support for gender diverse people.
“He was a premier who has understood and supported the value of community health as part of an accessible and equitable health system.”
“cohealth remains committed to continuing our work in partnership with the Victorian Government, and to advocating for evidence-based health policy.
“We look forward to working closely with the incoming Premier to build upon the progress achieved under Daniel Andrews’ leadership.”
