Independent review gives hope for improved service access for the vulnerable

Released on 20th November 2015

cohealth Chief Executive, Lyn Morgain, today welcomed the release of the Independent Review of New Arrangements for the Delivery of Mental Health Community Support Services and Drug Treatment Services Report.

The review was commissioned by the Minister for Mental Health, Martin Foley, and led by Aspex Consulting. Ms Morgain said that “cohealth was encouraged by the Victorian government’s commitment to undertaking this important evaluation of the recommissioning of services in community mental health and drug treatment services, and had welcomed the opportunity to participate in the consultation process and provide a detailed formal response to the review.”

Ms Morgain said “we are pleased that the review outcomes broadly responded to some of cohealth’s specific concerns and that the recommendations provided scope for improvements to parts of the current system.”

“That the recommendations are focused on improving service access for consumers, particularly vulnerable people, and creating a better service experience for all consumers is a step in the right direction for those who need it most,” said Ms Morgain.

“We look forward to working with Minister Foley to further these recommendations to ensure that Mental Health and Drug treatment services continue to be responsive to needs of individuals and communities into the future,” Ms Morgain said.
