Despite the fact that the power to legislate to deliver equality rests clearly with the Parliament, the Australian Government intends to proceed with a postal survey on the level of community support for marriage equality. Discrimination and abuse of human rights has a severe and damaging impact on people’s mental and physical health. This discrimination adds to the already, well-documented, poor health and wellbeing of LGBTIQ communities.
There are many ways people can demonstrate support for marriage equality and the LGBTIQ people who bare the brunt of this ongoing debate. Reach out to LGBTIQ coworkers and friends to see what you can do that might make a difference for them at this time.
