the life-changing impact of connected care
“I’ve had a lot of challenges and bad experiences in the past, but cohealth helped me through so much. It’s changed my life.”
Mehul has been connected to cohealth for nine years. He first arrived in Australia from India on a student visa, but after struggling to find work he faced housing insecurity and eventually became homeless.
During this time, Mehul was dealing with multiple health issues, food insecurity, and financial hardship including debt and a gambling problem. He had nothing to eat and nowhere safe to store his belongings. He first connected with a cohealth drop-in service in Melbourne’s CBD, where he accessed showers, meals and support.
“At that time, I didn’t have Medicare, so whenever I needed anything, I came to cohealth.”
Since first connecting with our homelessness support services, Mehul has accessed our primary care services, allied health, and social supports.
“Whenever I needed anything, I came to cohealth. It’s good to have everything in one place, where people know my story.”
— Mehul, Client
Mehul even continued his recovery and rehabilitation with physiotherapy at cohealth after being admitted to hospital with a leg injury.
We connected Mehul with our partner organisation Launch Housing. “Now from being homeless I have a stable house, and I feel very safe at home. It’s such a beautiful thing. cohealth do amazing work. Really amazing work.”
