In June 2019, funding for Victoria’s Mental Health Community Support Services transitioned to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This change was based on giving consumers more choice in the types of services needed for their mental health.

However, this system works from a premise that people are well voiced, understand the service system and have health coordinators who will work with them to help identify their needs. For many, this can feel like a very isolating system.

For good mental health, it is important for people to be able to work together, share their stories and learn from each other. Removing community based mental health support services does not encourage that.

For Mental Health Week 2020, we are sharing some of the stories from people whose lived experiences we can learn from.
