Supporting the health needs of young people at the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct

The Victorian Government has selected cohealth to deliver primary health services and work with the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) from 1 February 2024.

It is our core belief that everybody deserves access to non-judgemental, high-quality health services – whether someone resides in a justice setting or lives in the community.

We believe our multidisciplinary, trauma-informed approach will help improve the mental, physical and social health of the young people at Parkville Youth Justice Facility.

cohealth will be responsible for the delivery of primary health services, including screening, triage, and assessment when young people first arrive at the centre, and ongoing primary care and primary mental health support during their stay. We will also work with our community partners to support the young people’s ongoing health needs when they transition back into the community.

Under our Model of Care, we are committed to being guided by the voices of the children and young people at the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct.

cohealth is committed to advocating for harm reduction, social justice, and community empowerment. We will work on service and policy reforms to address the health challenges faced by vulnerable youth.

cohealth believes that healthcare providers can build positive health experiences and outcomes for young people both within and beyond youth justice settings. Healthcare providers can position themselves closer to influencing service and policy reforms to directly address and support the health challenges faced by children and young people. We are continuing to recruit for a range of positions at the Precinct with a diverse general practice and nursing workforce and services including Aboriginal health, mental health, allied health services, and general and emergency dental services.
