A community win: 365 Hoddle Street to become a new community health hub and social housing development.

After years of community advocacy, we are excited to share that cohealth’s 365 Hoddle Street site will be redeveloped to give Collingwood the community health hub it deserves.

This is a win for our Collingwood clients and for the community!

The Victorian Government has made a commitment to buy the site and turn it into a brand new, fit-for-purpose community health hub and social housing development.

This means the care you rely on will be secure now and into the future.

The new development will be built at the current Collingwood site, honouring the deep history and connection this place holds for community. It will also allow us to meet the growing needs of communities in the City of Yarra.

While this redevelopment occurs, cohealth Collingwood will have a new home at a nearby location for up to three years. Moving out is necessary so that work can begin at 365 Hoddle Street, and our clients’ care can continue close to home.

This won’t be our home forever – just until the new building at 365 Hoddle St is ready to welcome us back.

Nothing about the care you receive, the team who cares for you, or the way you get support will change. Only the location will be different.

Thank you to our passionate community. You have been part of the advocacy to redevelop 365 Hoddle Street for many years. Your voices have been heard. Your strength and persistence in advocating for your community have been seen.

Thank you to the Victorian Government, and the support of the Commonwealth, for recognising this need and making sure community health in Collingwood is here to stay.

Where will cohealth Collingwood be located while the redevelopment happens?

From early December 2026, cohealth Collingwood will be at 70 Trenerry Crescent Abbotsford.

This new address is 800 meters from the current Collingwood site, meaning that your care will still be close to home. The staff, services and programs you rely on will be moving together too, so your care will continue.

It is important to us that getting to the new site is easy and clear for you.

70 Trenerry Crescent is:

  • A 10-minute walk from Victoria Park train station
  • A 5-minute walk from the from the bus stops along Johnson Street
  • A 12–15-minute walk from 365 Hoddle Street.

Over the coming months we will support you with more information about getting to the new site.

Until then, you should keep coming to 365 Hoddle Street as usual for your care.

Opportunities to tell us what you want and need

We want to hear from you about what you need to make this move easier and what you need at our new home.

In the coming weeks, there will be opportunities for you to ask questions, share your thoughts and give us your feedback and ideas about how this transition needs to happen. You will have chances to have your say both online and in person.

We know the future of local healthcare must be shaped by the community. Beyond our relocation, you will have the opportunity to engage with Homes Victoria and with cohealth on what you want this new community health hub and social housing development at 365 Hoddle St to be.

We will be updating our community at the Collingwood site, through our website, over email and on our social media channels.

Our priority is to maintain continuity of access to this important harm reduction service while minimising barriers for clients.

About the redevelopment

The redevelopment is expected to take up to three years to complete.

The redevelopment timeline is linked to Housing Australia Future Fund delivery requirements which is completion by mid 2029.

With significant structural issues, cohealth’s Collingwood site at 365 Hoddle Street is rundown and in poor condition.

In 2025, Infrastructure Victoria released a report that confirmed thisthat a low quality and deteriorating building was impacting the care that we could provide.

Movements in the building’s foundations have caused cracks in walls and ceilings, while the building’s ageing infrastructure requires ongoing investment to remain safe and functional. The current condition and layout of the building also affect cohealth’s ability to provide efficient, contemporary community health services.

AIssues include leaking roofs and ceilings, uneven flooring, significant cracking, ageing infrastructure and spaces that are no longer suitable for contemporary healthcare delivery.

These issues have at times resulted in rooms or areas needing to be temporarily closed and create challenges for accessibility, privacy, technology and service delivery.

Early investigations will be carried out which relate to the proposed future redevelopment under Housing Australia Future Fund application process.

As part of the redevelopment the existing building will be demolished and the site cleared. It is anticipated that construction of the new community health facility and associated social housing will be completed by mid-2029.

When complete, the purpose-built community health hub and social housing development at 365 Hoddle Street will allow cohealth to offer care to the community for generations to come.

It will create greater capacity for health services and social supports alongside social and affordable housing, recognising that good health is closely connected to having a safe home and the right support.

The proposed redevelopment of the site is subject to Housing Australia Future Fund Round 3 outcome. If successful the project will be funded in partnership with the Community Housing Provider, Housing Australia and Homes Victoria.

Housing Australia has indicated that it looks forward to supporting the Victorian government’s delivery of the project through a funding allocation.

A: Yes. cohealth will listen to staff and clients about what matters most, using their experience to help make both the temporary site and future centre at 365 Hoddle Street accessible, welcoming and responsive to client needs.

Yes.cohealth is committed to returning to Hoddle Street as the health service provider for the new hub and continuing to care for the Collingwood community over the long term. cohealth will own the ground floor of the new development, where its health services will be delivered.

The redevelopment will deliver 69 new social homes. They will be available to any Victorian on the Housing Register and Victorians in need such as older people, and women and children escaping family violence.

Homes Victoria will partner with a community housing provider to develop and operate the social housing.
