cohealth counsellors provide free counselling for women with present or past experiences of family violence. Family violence can come in many forms. It involves violence that might happen between family members. It is not just limited to physical abuse. Family violence can also include emotional abuse, financial abuse, social abuse or verbal abuse. It includes domestic violence, controlling relationships, sexual abuse within abusive relationships, child sexual abuse, violence from adolescents, violence towards parents, and elder abuse.
Service details
We work together with women to reduce the impact of the ongoing effects of family violence. We provide support to help them move forward in their lives by providing:
- short to medium term individual counselling and group work
- a safe environment to discuss experiences of abuse
- risk assessment, safety planning and referral to crisis family violence services as needed
- support to identify and address the ongoing effects of violence on the woman and her children
- support to identify and work towards the woman’s own life goals
