The cohealth Sobering Up Service health team provides street-based health support at night in the City of Yarra for people who are intoxicated. If needed, an intoxicated person may be taken to a designated Salvation Army-run residential service or another safe place in the City of Yarra for a rest, at the request of the intoxicated person.

Dardi Munwurro [external link] and Aboriginal Community Justice Panels (ACJP) [external link] provide a culturally safe service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Service details

The cohealth Sobering Up Service (SUS) team is made up of:

  • a community health nurse, and
  • an alcohol and other drug support worker.

The SUS team:

  • provides medical assistance and drug and alcohol support
  • links people with other support services
  • responds to callouts from emergency services, traders and others who are concerned about a person who is intoxicated
  • provides transport to a safe place within the City of Yarra.
