Young people at Mount Alexander College in Flemington, have been taking advantage of on campus medical services available from cohealth GP, Dr Erin Gordon (pictured left), and nurse, Amelia Tauoqooqo, as part of the Doctors in Secondary Schools (DISS) program.

The program is funded by the Victorian Government and has been rolled out across 100 secondary schools in Victoria with the support of local primary Health Networks.

The service at Mount Alexander College was one of the first to be implemented and is offered within the school grounds one day per week. Students have embraced the program and Dr Gordon reports seeing 12-14 young people per 4 hour session. Practice nurse, Amelia Tauoqooqo is available for the entire day to offer support and advice.

More schools are set to join this program that enables access to medical services and encourages young people to be aware of and manage their own health.
