Good oral health is vital to all round health and wellbeing. Poor oral health can be very painful and could lead to other serious health problems. Most oral health issues can be prevented or managed with professional help.

General dental care services

For adults:

For children:

  • Check-ups and advice as needed
  • Dental sealants to prevent decay

Emergency dental care services

  • Swellings
  • Accidents/Trauma
  • Pain

Denture care

We have a prosthetist who can make dentures. We can also help if you have any pain or problems with your dentures. Our dentists can provide information on denture cleaning and care to help you maintain your dentures.

Specialist dental care services

Specialist dental care referrals are available for eligible clients. Clients who meet strict guidelines set by the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne (RDHM) are referred for care to the RDHM Carlton. A small co-payment fee will occur for this service. You can be referred for specialist services including:

  • Orthodontics
  • Oral medicine
  • Oral surgery
  • Periodontics
  • Prosthodontics
  • Paediatrics
  • Special needs

Fees & eligibility

The following people are eligible for cohealth dental care:

  • all children aged 0-12 years 
  • young people 13 – 17 years: 
    • if they or their parents/guardians hold a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, or 
    • who are eligible for the Child Dental Benefit Schedule (CDBS
  • anyone up to 18 years of age who is in out-of-home care that is provided by DFFF (this includes kinship, foster care and residential care) 
  • all people in youth justice custodial care  
  • all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 
  • all refugees and asylum seekers 
  • all adults aged 18 years and over who hold a Health Care Card or a Pensioner Concession Card, including
    • people experiencing or at risk of homelessness 
    • people who are registered with a mental health service or disability support service who have a letter of recommendation from their case manager or school 
    • pregnant women 
    • people over 80 years of age.

Please read this list carefully to see if you need to have a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card to receive dental care.

Wait times 

There are no wait times for the following groups, as long as they are eligible. They will be offered the next available appointment. 

  • anyone aged under 18  
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people  
  • people experiencing or at risk of homelessness  
  • refugees or asylum seekers  
  • people who are registered with a mental health service or disability support service who have a letter of recommendation from their case manager or school (with a Health Care Card or a Pensioner Concession Card)
  • pregnant women (with a Health Care Card or a Pensioner Concession Card)
  • people over 80 years of age (with a Health Care Card or a Pensioner Concession Card)

For everybody else there will be a wait time, which will depend on your level of need.  

While you are waiting for your care, if an emergency occurs contact us for emergency dental services.

The following groups do not have to pay anything for screening or treatment: 

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • anyone aged under 18 
  • people experiencing homelessness or at risk of being homeless 
  • refugees and asylum seekers 
  • people registered with mental health services or disability support services 

For people who do not fall into the groups above and who meet the service eligibility criteria, there is a co-payment cost of $31.00 per visit with a maximum of $124 for a general course of care. There is also a cost of $74.50 per denture, capped at $149 for upper and lower dentures.

It is important that you access treatment early. Please speak to one of our staff if you are unable to pay the fee.
